Lush Jungle progressively becomes covered by dense clouds
Stopping for the first lunch break. The very organised porters cut the dry wood from lower-dryer parts of the trail.
Perfection even in the jungle. After all, being in the middle of nowhere, damp and out of breath is hardly an excuse to avoid cutting star-shaped carrots for the Mie Goreng!
Warm tea in plastic cups, what else?
The 3 days trek's awesomly cut desert
Preparing the chicken for dinner.
Getting the tents ready as soon as the clouds are gone to escape from the damp, for a surprisingly warm night
Sunset from the top after the first day of trekking
Waking up for the second day with the view on the Gili Island and Gunung Agung on the neigbouring Bali Island
First view of Rinjani's Caldera from POS III.
First view of Rinjani's Caldera from POS III.
Gili Island, or a view on the warm islands borded by crystal clear waters, an irreal tought from our damp point of view, 2641m higher.
Not a bad spot to camp

Making our way down to the Lake
The view accompanying the trek down the caldera.

The way down is quite tricky but going down feels so nice after the constant positive slope of the previous day.
Finally the Lake!
Swimming in Volcano Lakes is always an awesome thing to do! If only the water could be as warm as the adjacent hot springs!
Having a rest!
After the lunch break by the lake, the 3 hours climb up to the Plawangan Crater Rim camping is hardeous and made perticularily difficult by a heavy drenching rain.
Steep & slippery rock facades
A strange visit at 2600m
Definitly more at ease than anybody at the crater rim, sitting at the edge of a 1000m drop to the crator
Sunset from the Crater Rim at Plawangan 2 (2639m), at the foot of the summit (3726m).

A reconforting dinner?
And here, THE SUMMIT!!! It's a quick jump in the album, but a jump that never the less took 3 hours of extremly strainous efforts, up the terrible slopes of ash and sands leading to the top.
The view from the Summit is definitly worth the effort!

Here is Adi, son of the guide, who made his 7th climb!

View from the Rinjani Summit (3726m)
Going back down, and discovering the path taken on the way up, under full darkness with headlamps that could not reveal the unforgiving slopes on both sides of the narrow slippery path!
On the way down from the summit

After a last look at the summit, clouds came in as curtains after the show. Bye Rinjani!
