Ubud Region

The central region of Bali is probably the most visited because of the density of temples, traditional villages, beautiful landscapes and wide array of activity. Ubud is the main town where to start from. The main street is called "Monkey Forest Road" and has shops, restaurant and hotels.

Hotels vary from cheap backpackers to sophiticated resorts in the middle of rice fields. The general quality of all these hotels is excellent. In Ubud, it is possible to organize any trip around the island. A van retal with driver (who can be your guide as well) costs in the 600k-700k for the entire day. In Ubud, it is possible to visit temples, stroll in the many traditional / antique boutiques, enjoy cafes in beautiful gardens, watch Balinese Dancing and listen to Traditional Gamelan. If you are able to forget about tourist crowds, Monkey forest is a very nice sanctuary, with beautiful nature and hundreds of very active monkeys! A very enjoyable hike is to explore the rice fields and villages in the north of Ubud. Just wandering through little villages and meeting locals is a fantastic experience!

There are a great many activities and sights to be seen around Ubud. The downhill cycling from Batur area to Ubud is enjoyable, so is the motorbike rental to explore temples or landscapes a bit further out such as Tanah Lot on the west coast. One of our most appreciated temple is probably the water temple (Tirta Empul), the Elephant cave (Goa Gajah).
