Bako National Park is a remarkable Mangrove/Jungle park, where hundreds of wild animals can easily be spotted during casual hikes on the park's well maintained trails. From Kuching (Largest Malaysian city on Borneo), it is a 30/40 mins drive to the jetty, from which a boat ride of 20 - 30 mins takes you the Bako Headquaters. Bako National Park is only reachable from the sea, and feels like an island.
Fom the Headquarters, there are lots of hikes possible ranging from a couple of minutes to a few hours! The paths are safe and well maintained. Guides are not necessary for the trek but are a clear advantage if you're interested to learn about the jungle, the animals, plants, insects etc. I can strongly recommend The "oohaa agency" that can arrange trips to Bako (and all around Borneo) The boss, David, is very helpful and always available. Our guide was Mawi, and he was amazing! Very experienced guide with unlimited knowledge on the nature of Borneo, I totally recommend trekking with him!
