In this page, you will find some details about four main parks in Singapore where you can easily spend an entire morning or afternoon! Parks in Singapore are usually well connected and there are many ways to reach them, and have food / drink stalls within! They are:

BOTANIC GARDEN

The Botanic Garden is accessible from either the Botanic Garden MRT station, or from a 10-15mins walk from the Orchard MRT station. The park is well designed with some restaurants and drink stalls, and for the perfect brunch surrounded by tropical settings, head to the Halia restaurant! There are many different areas to discover such as the Orchid Garden, the Healing Garden and the Eco Lake with its swan and ocasional monitor lezards. The Shaw foundation stage has a large lawn which can be completly filled when the Singapore Symphony Orchestra is playing. and colonial-styled kiosks to rest from the sun.

GARDENS BY THE BAY

As amazing as it may seem, Gardens by the Bay has been entirely constructed from reclaimed land! The entire land-fill was created to close off the Marina with the Barrage! This is now a lush park and a must see in Singapore! Flower Dome and Cloud Forest are modern greenhouses where a tropical climate has been re-created to grow exotic plants, and where an artificial waterfall has been built to give visitors the sensation of being in the rainforest. The many flowers of the garden offer shelter to many small birds such as sun-birds!!!

For a little lunch/drinks/dinner break, make sure you visit satay by the bay where all local delicacies are served, including the satays in the evening!

EAST COAST PARK

East Coast Park stretches from Marina Barrage all the way to the airport and even further, to the Changi Beach Park in the north. For a perfect afternoon, head to the Big Splash, rent some bicycles, and enjoy the ride on the cycling paths! You can stop at the East Coast Lagoon Food Village for a lunch & drinks in this huge hawker center famous for local seafood and satays center, and in Myra's Beach Club for a pint or a cocktail! On your way back from Changi Beach Park (if you have been so far!) make sure you catch the park connectors to cross Singapore and cut through Bedok back to the big splash!

To access East Coast Park, take the MRT to Dakota or Mountbatten MRT and grab a bus heading to Marine Parade, where the park is a short walk from. If its too hot, save your energy for the park, and take a cab!!

Last but not least, Mount Faber (accessible from Vivo City MRT by crossing the road and taking the stairs up) is a fantastic walk with different elevations and panoramic views on both the sea and the city.

rom Mount Faber, walk your way west and cross Henderson Wave (a very high pedestrian bridge with beautiful helix design), walk down the souther ridges tree-top walk, and onto Hort Garden where you can grab a bite and get a drink! From Hort Garden, you can end with a pleasant walk to Kent Ridge Park.

For a more authentic experience and a proper immertion into the Singapore Jungle, head to one these three favorites reserves:

MAC RITCHIE RESERVOIR

Mac Ritchie Reservoir is accessible from Caldecott MRT or by bus (lines 980, 130, 167) and will provide you with a fantastic immersion experience, in the heart of the city! The reservoir itself is very calm and you can spot many animals from monkeys and monitor lezards to kingfishers and snakes!

Although the Jungle is very dense, the path is very clear and in some areas, nice wooden boards are provided to be able to walk on top of the water! The park entry has very good facilities (toilets, showers, cabins, lockers) and the Mushroom Cafe where you can have a well deserved Waffle & ice-cream after your long walk! The walk around the reservoir is 10km long, and can be done by jogging.

Right in the center of the circuit, it is possible to get a view from the top at the Jelutong Tower, and walk amongst trees on the tree-top walk (all free of course!). Finally, if you're not that much into doing the entire loop, it is also possible to walk to the Bukit Timah Reserve and end the walk there!

SUNGAI BULOH

Sungai Buloh is a large mangrove reserve park, at the northern tip of Singapore, right across Malaysia. The way to get there is a little hectic as you will need to go to Kranji MRT and take a bus or shuttle to the entrance of the park. Again, to save your energy for the visit of the park, you should consider getting a cab, at least from Kranji MRT! The visitor Center is like a small museum with pictures & descriptions of all the animals, insects, reptiles and birds that can be seen in the Park. Right next to it, you can walk towards the Mangrove Boardwalk, a nicely crafted set of boardwalks which let you admire the mangrove vegetation and its inhabitant whithout having your feet in the mud!

The Dragonfly Pond usually house a few monitor lezards, but if you are lucky, you may spot the wild otters that enjoy catching fishes there! The path to the east leads to more paths and to the eagle point where if you're lucky, you may spot a white-belly sea eagle! The path to the west heads to the Buloh Tidal Ponds, where there are many fantastic hides (including a tower reaching on top of the trees!) from where you can see fantastic wildlife (especially in February-April and September-November migration periods). If you are lucky, you may spot some resident crocodiles! They are usually under the bridge, and trust me, they are not small!!

Last but not least on this non-exhaustive list, Pulau Ubin - accessible from Changi Village Ferry Terminal - is a fantastic break from city life, and throws you back to the 'traditional' Singapore! You may start by a lunch at the Changi Village Hawker Center, before heading to the Ferry terminal. The 'ferries' are in fact small boat of about 10 people, and these leave as and when the boats get filled.

Upon arrival on Pulau Ubin, you can rent a bicycle on the left, right next to the ferry terminal. The island is quite big, and with quite a bit of elevation so its enjoyable to rent bikes! For those more adventurous, go to the west and enjoy the mountain bike circuit!

You can spend the entire afternoon there and make sure that you go to see the Chek Jawa wetlands, the high tower, the many boardwalks and lush vegetation!

Amongst the many parks, Singapore has some excellent zoos where animals from all over the world are kept in great conditions, and where you can observe many times without any cage in between!

SINGAPORE ZOO

The Singapore Zoo is located in the middle of the lush Mandai rainforest and occupies a whooping 26 hectares! It is home to 2,800 animals representing 300 species, and all environments have been designed and built after their habitats in the wild. There are many facilities, restaurants and shops, making it a fantastic day or half-day experience. To optimize your visit, make sure you catch the feeding and show times so that you can get to see the animals in action! Check out the >map< for all the information!

The tickets cost 33 SGD per adult and 22 SGD for children. To reach the Zoo, the best is to head to Ang Mo Kio MRT, and get bus line 138 from there.

At the same location, you can choose between the SIngapore Zoo (with different zones of the world featuring their local animals), the River safari (featuring the world's biggest rivers such as the Mekong, the Nile, the Yangtze or Missipi and all the odd animals & fishes living on / in the river) and the Night Safari, a fun experience inside the zoo where the "nocturial" animals can be caught!

SINGAPORE BIRD PARK

The Singapore Bird Park can be accessed by going to Boon Lay MRT, and getting on bus No.194. The park is quite spectular with birds of preys, flamingos, birds of paradise, a re-constructed huge waterfall with hundreds of birds flying freely inside and alot of information on the birds present in the region!

SINGAPORE AQUARIUM

For all sea lovers, the Sea Aquarium on Sentosa is a must go! There are many exhibitions ranging from the Sraits of Malacca and the Andaman Sea to the Bay of Bengal, the Persian Gulf and the Red Sea. More than 100,000 marine animals of over 800 species are kept in beautiful and large environments reproducing their habitats. A huge aquarium is dedicated to dozens of sharks and another to jelly fishes. Some truly spectacular experience!!

If you fancy dining surrounded by fish and sharks, there is actually a restaurant inside the aquarium . You can also start your visit with the visit of the excellent Maritime Experiential Museum with great insights on local tribes, and pirates! The tickets cost 38SGD per adult and 28SGD per child and to get there, follow the signs once you reach the resort world sentosa!
