INDOORS ACTIVITIES

Singapore is hot pretty much all year round! It gets less warm during the mansoon season however, the torential rains won't let you enjoy most outdoor activities and that's why there are alot of things to do indoors as well! Of course, all the shopping activity in some of the numerous malls (Vivo City, Plaza Singapura, Orchard Ion, Takashimaya, Tang's, Bugis Junction, Raffles City) goes without saying but if you enjoy music you can head to the fantastic Esplande Theatres located inside the Durian shapped building by the Marina and book your tickets on Sistic .

If you are feeling in a sportive mood, head to Stadium MRT for some Indoors Climbing , if you really enjoy the local food (and who doesn't?), you can opt for a Cooking Class where you will be tought all the basics to be able to feel in Singapore even at home!

Singapore has many cinemas with all the latest blockbusters, but you can also get the IMAX 3D experience at some specific Cinemas at a fraction of European prices!

These are just some examples, but there are many more activities to enjoy if you want to hide from the heat, epecially in some of the many Museums such as the Mint Museum of Toys or the Peranakan Museum !

OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES

Cycling in Singapore can be fantastic as there are many park connectors designed to optimize cycling paths across the island. For the sportive ones, Pulau Ubin has a fantastic dirt-bike track. Our favorite is East Coast Park where it is possible to cycle from the Marina all the way to Changi beach in the north with minimal roads to cross! To rent bikes, head to Big Splash in East Coast Park, or go on the left after the ferry terminal on Pulau Ubin. For water activities, head to Siloso Beach to enjoy some Standup paddle on the sea facing indonesia, or to East Coast Lagoon where the largest cable-ski of Singapore is located!

For a fun-filled day, head to Resort World Sentosa where Universal World Studio is located with many attractions, rides and theme parks. For a more local - and free- theme park, you can head to Haw Par Villa, constructed by the founders of the legendary Tiger Balm, this park will give you excellent insights on Chinese culture, myths and famous stories.

Last but not least, if you have a sudden urge for a jog, head to either Kallang Bay (10-12km around the marina with breathtaking views on the city & the sea), Mc Ritchie Reservoir (10km through the jungle, fantastic and under the shade) or the Souther Ridges / Mount Fabor if you're in for a little cardio up the slopes (7km with great view on the city from the top of Faber Hill)

Singapore has many fantastic places for kids, and here are just a few of them: Gardens by the Bay kids zone with water games, excellent toilets & restaurant facilities, Kidzania theme park, Marina Barrage rooftop to fly kites, Adventure Cove WaterPark in Sentosa, and why not, the famous Legoland in Malaysia just across the western border of Singapore!

If there is one thing that will definitly strike you in Singapore, it is the food! Singapore has many food courts & Hawker Centers designed to allow people from different communities (Chinese/ Malays / Indians) to share a table and eat their own food. Singapore's very diverse population across the years has built a real food culture with specialties from all over the region, from China to Indonesia, Philippines, India & Vietnam. Here you will find a small selection of our favorite dishes!

For the best Singaporian experience:

"Hawker centers" are large eating places surrounded with many different food stalls where all choices are available. If you are looking for one in a central location, close to the Marina, head to Lau Pa Sat (on a closed road in the evening) or Satay by the Bay right next to Esplanade MRT. For a local experience, head to Maxwell hawker center in the heart of Tanjong Pagar, Chomp Chomp in Serangoon or Changi Village Center! Hawker Centers are also available in parks such as the satay by the bay in gardens by the bay, and such as Marina Lagoon in East Coast Park!

For Breakfast:

The typical local breakfast made of eggs and bread butter and Kaya (Coconut jam) can be had at Yakun or Toast Box restaurants, but for a typical Chinese breakfast, head to Swee Choon Tim Sum on Jalan Besar and enjoy the fantastic Egg tarts, Chasiu baos, Hor fans and Siu Mais!

For dessert:

The local desert is called the Ice Kacang and is configured in alot of different ways. The best can be found at Mei Heong Yuen on Temple Street or at Ah Chew's on Liang Seah Street.

For Vegetarians:

There are many salad bars in Singapore but the Chinese Vegetarian restaurants are something to try out, for example in China Town at Miao Yi's. For fine dining, head to Orchard and indulge yourself at Joie's extensive choice and great quality!

Creating a list of Chinese food to try in Singapore just cannot do justice to the great diversity of the little red-dot! The best is most probably to just stroll through the many restaurants and .. try out! Amongst the must try, there is the Bah Kut Teh, a traditional Boiled Pork Ribs in a pepper-spiced soup which you can have at either Old Street or at Song Fa restaurants.

Singapore is very famous for its Chicken Rice (Boon Tong Kee) and for its Chilli Crab (Jumbo Seafood) which you have to try during your stay! Both restaurants have many outlets throughout the city!

If you're up for the spice challenge, indulge yourself at Old Chengdu restaurant for a typical and delicious chinese meal in the heart of China Town. For a more "fine-dining" experience at affordable price, head to Crystal Jade or Din Tai Fung and try the amazing Xiao Long Baos!

INDIAN FOOD

Singapore has a fantastic array of great Indian restaurants, and especially in the Little-India suburbs. For a nice dinner experience, head to Muthu's Curry on Racecourse Road for its Curry Fish head or Butter Chicken, and for a more local experience, head to the Punjabi restaurant next to it to enjoy a local Chicken Tikka!

The local's favorites are the Pratas which are basically pancakes, and which can have about anything on! To try some of the best in town, head to springleaf in the Katong suburbs! Its a little far from anything, but you won't regret it! The elder brother of the Prata is called the Murtabak, a pancake cooked with chicken, mutton or sardines and which you dip in curry, a real treat! The best in town has to be Singapore ZamZam, just across the road from the Main Mosque in the Arab Street suburbs.

Last but not least, for an absolute Indian meal, head to the Tiffin Room of the Famous Raffles Hotel, and enjoy a fantastic indian buffet seating in a beautiful colonial setting!

MALAY FOOD

Malay Food can be found everywhere in Singapore, but to get immersed in the Malay environment, head to Geyland Serai Market and indulge yourself in the typical ambiance and try the brilliant Mutton or Chicken Briyani! Otherwise, you can head Kampong Glam in one of the cafes to eat on the streets next to the Mosque, or head to Mamanda for a luxurious meal in a typical Malay house!

For a typical experience of shophouse, head to Katong area with its many stalls, shops & cafes, and enjoy the typical fish & coconut seafood soup: the Laksa!

Peranakan food is really typical of this particular Ethnic group of Singapore and the best place to enjoy it is PeraMakan at Keppel Club.

There are plenty of ways to enjoy a Drink in Singapore. From cheap places to enjoy the local Tiger beer, to cozy bars with live music and to amazing rooftop bars where you can sip your cocktail a few hundred of meters above the ground!

Alcohol is pricy in Singapore, so why not enjoy it in the little stalls in a totally local atmosphere! Most Hawker centers will have drink stalls where you can get your local tiger beer (Chomp Chomp in Serangoon Gardens, Newton Circus @ Newton MRT, Lau Pa Sat @ Raffles Place MRT) but there are also alot of micro brewery where you can enjoy crafted beer in a local setting such as "On Tap" in Chinatown Complex, "Legends" in northern Ponggol, . If you are wondering what is Tiger beer, you can visit the Tiger Beer brewery tour and enjoy the tasting facilities!

COZY BARS

There are many bars to go to and rather than listing them out, I thought it would be easier to group them by "quarters". For Hipster style environment, head to Arab Street's Blue Jazz Cafe & Piedra Negra, to enjoy festive bars with a nice street ambiance. For a more up-scale experience, head for Chijmes for a drink on the terrace of the Chijmes church, in a truly colonial setting. For proper partying & clubbing, head to Clark Quay and Boat Quay where the dozens of bars will quench any thirst! A bit further from the city center Holland Village has fantastic bars including Wala Wala an awesome live-band bar. Last but not least; Duxton Hill has probably the highest concentration of nice restaurants from all around the world with many many bars with tables installed directly on the streets which are closed every evening!

ROOFTOP BARS

Singapore has many skyscraper, and many roof-top bars to enjoy the view from. For a view right in the center of the CBD, on Singapore highest tower, and for a real 'rooftop' experience (standing literally on the roof with DJ music & drinks), head to 1-Altitude (Raffles Place MRT). For a view on the CBD, head to Ce La Vie, the bar on top of Marina Bay Sands, and if you want to be in between the two and enjoy the view of both Marina bay sands and the CBD, head to Level 33, the world's highest brewery!

Not all rooftops have to be several hundreds of meters above the ground, and for a very nice, romantic & cozy experience, head to the Southbridge rooftop with great views over Boat Quay's shop houses!
